Harmonies for the new year
Harmonies, the board game, is a cozy, visual delight! My new fav! Why? For starters, the game feels immediately immersive, with it's attractive animal & habitat artwork, the imperfectly round shaped colored resource blocks, the tiny, shining golden cubes that represent each animal. I expressed some glee in seeing the animals waiting for a chance at finding a home and me wanting to give them all they need to live out their beautiful lives. Secondly, there's a good amount of strategy but it's not too overwhelming and it's for the animals! There are 32 different animals that need specific habitats. Resources are chosen in random clusters. There is also a certain amount of land & time to create these habitats. Bonus: 10 spirit animals are included to be an add on if players decide. Second bonus: there is a solo playing mode. Surprisingly, the game play is quick-ish, and you are left with a lot to think about! Some of the strategic thinking comes about when players choose from a random selection of resource clusters available, when they decide on a certain selection of animals that may be able to live within the chosen resources, and the placement of resources. There is only a finite amount of land and time to place resources, and some animals just may not work with some of the resources already placed. These concepts can also be worthwhile reflections to take away after the game has ended. So, the whole Harmonies concept is so earth friendly and I love it for that. We have just a few more Harmonies in stock at Ripple. My hope is to have this on the players' library shelf soon and to get more in stock when we need. New year means new games to play and I really hope you give this one a try!
